Benefit Street (between Waterman and Hopkins streets) in Providence, RI

RISD Craft, our annual juried sale, features handmade fine art and design work by more than 85 alumni and 25 current students. The work on view speaks to the quality, attention to detail and mastery of craftsmanship students and alumni hone at RISD and bring to their own practices in a wide variety of media.

Viewers have an opportunity to engage with makers while finding unique gifts and one-of-a-kind items at this outdoor sale, which runs for one day only – during RISD Weekend, our annual alumni reunion and parents’ weekend. While checking out the exemplary craftsmanship on Providence’s historic Benefit Street, be sure to cast your vote for your favorite artist to make them eligible for the People’s Choice Award and a cash prize.

RISD Craft is free and open to the public, and takes place rain or shine (under a street tent if the forecast warrants it).

When and where does RISD Craft take place?
The show runs from 10am – 5pm on Saturday, October 7, on historic Benefit Street – between Waterman and Hopkins streets – in Providence, RI. It coincides with RISD Weekend parents’ and reunion weekend, which draws large crowds of visitors to campus for a full schedule of special events.

Where can visitors park?
There are no designated parking lots for people visiting RISD Craft but you should be able to find on-street parking along Benefit Street north or south of the exhibition and on side streets in the College Hill neighborhood. Paid parking is available in the MetroPark lot on the corner of North Main and Steeple streets.

How many artists participate in RISD Craft?
Each year there are 82 alumni booths, and approximately 25 student booths. Student booths are often shared between artists, and they are chosen for participation by lottery, not a jury.

Who juries the show?
The panel is comprised of RISD faculty and alumni – all working artists and designers – and rotates annually. Jurors remain anonymous to ensure impartiality.

What kinds of prizes are given at RISD Craft?
The People’s Choice Award is based on votes cast by visitors to the show. Our panel of jurors also selects an individual who graduated within the last 10 years for the Emerging Artist Award. Awards include automatic acceptance to next year’s show if the winner chooses to participate.
